The city doesn't know

4th - 6th February, 2017
Kathmandu, Nepal

"The City does't know" is a mobile light installation that was driven by Kiran the rickshaw driver through the inner streets of Kathmandu. As the evening grew dark, the rickshaw stopped in the open spaces where communities gather to buy and sell vegetables, eat snacks from the food carts and chat with their neighbours. As people gathered around the rickshaw, they were invited to draw or write messages about that the city doesn't know or doesn't care to know about them, their lives and their community. These messages were then slid into the lightbox, before it continued onto the next stop.

The final element of this work will happen on Tuesday February 7th, when the messages that have been collected will the displayed with the installation in Kathmandu Durbar Square for the public to see.

This work was created as part of an artist residency with Sattya Arts, supported by an Arts Council of Ireland Travel and Training grant.
